Which Xbox 360 Repair Method Should You Use? Should You Send it in Or Repair it Yourself?

By William Turner .

If you have a broken Xbox 360 and are suffering from the red lights of doom, freeze ups or DVD drive problems then you really have only two choices to get it fixed. You can send it back in to the Microsoft repair factory or you can fix it yourself.

This article will tell you the pros and cons of each repair method so you can make a better informed decision.

The first method mentioned is to send it in, and this is not such a bad idea if you really do not play on your console very much and don't mind waiting for four weeks and paying out about $140 in a repair bill.

You will normally also get a refurbished console back, which for those of you that do not know this means that it has been put together with good parts from other broken Xbox 360's that have been sent in.

Some people claim as this is cutting corners and for this reason you may get some of the problems again in the future.

It is not all bad though, as you will also be able to send it back in as many times as you need and some of the repairs are actually free such as the 3 red light error for three years, and had the same for the E74 error.

If you cannot wait that long then the other method is to repair it yourself at home.
The pro's of this method is that it can be completed very quickly in most instances and you will not have to wait for a long time to get your console back.

However the problems come with this method in finding a good guide that will show you how to complete the fix without getting too technical.

Most of the problems are caused by overheating, so nearly all of these guides focus on telling you how to stop the heat with household items. My advice to you would be to do some searching around and make sure that you find a guide that offers a full preview video of the actual fix so you can see how complicated it looks.

It should also show the fix being carried out on the real Xbox 360 so you know that it is genuine.

Lastly make sure that it comes with a full guarantee and you should be fine!

I hope this article has told you a bit more about the available options you have, and from the information above you can make your decision on how to fix your Xbox 360.
